Life would be so boring if we were all the same! Join Alyssa today for this fun, empowering activity and celebrate being unique!
Introduction:
How can a flower be both unique and similar?
Flowers have a wide variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and necessities for growing- but they’re all still flowers!
Just like these flowers, every person is unique! We all have different ways we express and grow into ourselves, and we can support each other in these differences.
Directions:
What do you think the word “unique” means? What is an example of something unique? Is each and every person unique? How so? Let’s brainstorm! Print the page below or follow along on your own sheet of paper!
Next, what do you think the word “similar” means? Brainstorm again, giving examples of some things that are similar on your own paper. Is each and every person similar? How so?
Now we know that people can be both unique and similar, just like flowers! We can all hold separate identities, interests, and hobbies but still support one another by loving ourselves and others.
Finally, let’s make an acrostic of our names, describing your personal positive traits or abilities using each letter in your name. For example, a student named Sarah may write something like this: S = Smart, A = Athletic, R = Responsible, A = Artistic, H = Happy.
You Are Unique:
Your name and your identity are valuable; you make the world unique and fun!
Differences between your acrostic and someone else’s only means that together, you all have more positivity to spread to others. Scientists have all sorts of different identities within the STEM field, and it is super important for everyone to feel welcomed and safe while doing something they’re passionate about.
The STEM field itself is widely diverse in study, and so are the people who work in this field! Though scientists (similarly) work in the same field, they can still have different interests and different identities but still work together.
