Tiera Guinn Fletcher

Tiera Guinn Fletcher is a young female aerospace engineer who works on NASA’s Space Launch System to put humans on Mars. Along with her career with Boeing, she now leads the outreach business called Rocket with the Fletchers with her husband to promote diversity in STEM and encourage the youth to explore careers in science.

background:

Tiera Guinn Fletcher was born near Atlanta, Georgia. She knew she wanted to be an aerospace engineer at just eleven years old, when she participated in a Lockheed-Martin aerospace program. During her senior year of high school, Fletcher participated in internships both at NASA and Georgia Institute of Technology, researching landing performance of aircraft.

She attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering in 2017.

career:

While at MIT, Fletcher worked with Boeing on NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) to land humans on Mars. She has held many other positions post-graduation helping with the SLS, and she currently works full time for Boeing in Maui, Hawai’i.

advocacy:

Fletcher speaks to young people to encourage them to pursue their dreams in any field, not just STEM. She created Rocket with the Fletchers with her husband and fellow aerospace engineer, Myron Fletcher, in order to do so. She also co-authored the book Wonder Women of Science to educate children about female scientists.

“The world not only needs diversity of gender but diversity of race, diversity of generations, and most importantly, a diversity of mind.”
