EMPOWERING ACTIVITY

Have you ever felt as though you were one big elephant, because you stood out from the people around you?Sometimes we may feel that we do not fit in with our friends or classmates because of our differences, and it can feel like other people do not share things in common with you.

Today we are going to play a game called “Where the wind blows.” Your teacher will start the game by saying “The wind blows if ____ ,” filling in the blank with something about themselves or an experience they have had.

For example if your teacher's favorite color is blue, they can say “The wind blows if your favorite color is blue.” Then if you relate to what your teacher said, you will stand up and spin in a circle. You and classmates can take turns on who leads each round of the game.

By playing this game, you can find out who shares similar experiences or other things with you. More often than not, there is probably someone out there who has something in common with you. Learning about these similarities can help us build confidence in ourselves and break down the feeling of not fitting in.

While it can be comforting to know that we have things in common with other people, since it helps us to feel more connected, don’t be afraid to be different! We all have something that makes us stand out from others, so take pride in what makes you different!
